Scholarship Application

The Sigma Delta Chi Foundation of Washington, D.C. (SDXDC), is accepting applications for its 2019-2020 scholarships for undergraduate students attending colleges and universities in the Washington, D.C., area.

All applicants must show a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in journalism and must be a current sophomore or junior, entering his or her junior or senior term in the 2019-2020 academic year.  To qualify for consideration, applicants do not have to be a journalism, communications or multi-media major.

Scholarships of at least $3,000 each will be awarded applicants who currently attend four year colleges and are selected from the 2019 scholarship competition.

All applications, and required supporting documents, must be emailed by Friday, February 6, 2019.

You do not need to be selected or nominated by your school. Students apply directly to the foundation for a scholarship. Applicants must show an ongoing interest in journalism and have a letter of recommendation from a school faculty member familiar with your work. Applicants selected as finalists are interviewed by a panel of veteran journalists.

The SDX/DC Foundation, started in 1962, has awarded some 200 scholarships to help aspiring journalists attending college in the Washington, D.C., area. Scholarship awards are paid directly to your university for credit to your account for tuition, fees and other college-related expenses.

Past scholarship recipients have come from all over the nation to study at Washington, D.C.- area colleges, bringing their passion for journalism with them. Past recipients hold a variety of jobs at news organizations across the country.
